God is Knowable

Week Starting April 11, 2021

Read this Scripture:

Jeremiah 9:23–24

[23] Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, [24] but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.” (ESV)

Read this Thought:

There are many important things about each and every one of us.  How old we are? When our birthday is? What we like to eat? What are our favourite things to do? What makes us happy? What makes us sad? These are just a few very important things.

A preacher called A W Tozer once said, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”  Why would he say that? Why would that be more important than anything else? (Even more important than our birthday!) Because God is more important than anything or anyone else - even us! God designed us to know Him and so living without Him is a little like trying to ride a bike without wheels… It doesn’t work because it’s missing something that is very important.

Even though God is really, really, really, very, very important, He knows us and He wants us to know Him.  How awesome is that! Knowing God is more important than any other thing in our lives. Like the verse from Jeremiah says, knowing God is the thing we should boast about.

Do this Activity:

We are going to learn lots about God in the coming weeks, but you probably already know some things about Him.  Get a ball (or something else that you can throw to each other) and sit or stand in a circle. Throw the ball to someone else in the circle and when they catch it, they have to say something that is true about God (for example, “God is good” or “God is wise”).

Discuss this Question:

After all we have talked about, why do you think knowing God is so important?

Scripture to Memorise:

Deuteronomy 6:4–5

[4] “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. [5] You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. (ESV)
